Corporate Social Responsibility


Tower's CSR policy states that Tower Supplies aims to embed corporate social responsibility into everything that it does and to be a responsible company.

Tower's CSR objectives are:


Manage our environmental impact
Encourage staff to use sustainable modes of transport to commute to work
Identify and implement cost effective water and energy conservation measures
Manage our grounds in an environmentally and biodiversity-sensitive manner
Develop and implement a sustainable and socially responsible procurement policy that will include consideration of corporate social responsibility in all tender evaluations
Work with our suppliers to help us achieve our sustainable and socially responsible procurement policy aspirations in the delivery of our products and services
Support the principle of fair trade and aim to purchase only fair trade tea and coffee through our catering provider
Respect the rights and dignity of every employee and treat them fairly and without discrimination
Promote the health and wellbeing of staff
Encourage team working and the sharing of knowledge throughout the organisation
Provide a safe, fulfilling and rewarding career for all our employees
Enable our staff to continue to support at least one charitable organisation every year through voluntary fund raising activities, and to give them the time and opportunity to participate in charitable events
Continually evaluate what we do in order to improve our corporate social responsibility performance


Supplier Management – Responsible Sourcing


Tower Supplies is committed to monitoring social standards in the supply chain, and the Company encourages suppliers to operate to the same ethical standards employed by Tower Supplies itself.


As a minimum, direct suppliers are required to comply with or have time defined plans to adopt ethical trading standards at their own manufacturing and supply sites, and to drive ethical trading requirements along their own supply chain.


This Code of Practice applies to:

Staff directly employed by Tower Supplies on temporary or permanent contracts
Staff employed or provided by employment agencies to work on Tower Supplies premises


No forced, bonded or involuntary labour shall be used

All employment with Tower Supplies is freely chosen
Staff are not required to lodge deposits or identity papers with us
Staff are free to leave Tower Supplies after reasonable notice


No child labour shall be used

There shall be no recruitment of child labour
Young persons under the age of 18 are not employed at night or required to undertake hazardous activities


All employees have the right to join a recognised trade union


Working conditions are safe and hygienic

Tower Supplies takes adequate measures to prevent accidents and minimise potential hazards
Staff receive regular health and safety training
Staff have unrestricted access to toilet facilities and drinking water
Tower Supplies has published a Health & Safety Policy, which details responsibility at the main site


Working hours and remuneration are reasonable and regular employment is provided

Staff pay rates comply with national legal standards as a  minimum
Staff are not forced to work in excess of 48 hours per week on a regular basis and are provided with 2 days off per week
Staff are given written terms and conditions of employment that details the employment relationship between and the respective obligations of the employee and employer; working hours, grievance and disciplinary procedures, holiday entitlement, absence and sick pay rules and notice periods for termination of employment
No deductions are made from wages as a disciplinary measure, and pay slips detailing lawful deductions (tax, national insurance) and voluntary deductions (charity donations) are provided each pay period
Sub-contracting and fixed term contracts are not used as a means to avoid obligations under labour or social security laws


No discrimination is practised

There is no discrimination in pay, hiring, compensation, access to training, promotion, termination of employment or retirement on the grounds of race, nationality, age, disability or any other legally required category
Opportunities for personal and career development are equally available to all employees


No harassment, threats, abuse or intimidation shall be practised

Physical, verbal and sexual threats, abuse, harassment or intimidation is expressly prohibited
As a matter of policy, Tower Supplies does not make irregular payments


Tower's supplier framework is based on Responsible, Ethical, Compliant and Sustainable supply chains with manufacturing partners that Tower can establish close working partnerships with. Tower's supplier management framework is comprised of:


Qualification Questionnaires - Evidence of policies, certification, internal / external audit, activities, meeting minutes, process maps etc. Focus of questions is on ethical, HR, environmental, H&S, quality and financial areas.
Site Audits - to check that manufacturers are doing what they say they are meant to be doing involving interviews and observation of staff and management, inspection of records (e.g. work safety, working hours, quality inspections, input/output, training & development, management reviews and supplier audits. For overseas factories, our key manufacturers have their own agents based in the countries of manufacture, and Tower has its own agent based in the Far East carrying out factory visits. In addition, various certifications require third party independent audits by internationally recognised certified auditing bodies.
Regular Review - review of commercial arrangements, ongoing innovations and developments, and performance.
SLAs - Jointly agreed performance levels and expectations.
KPIs (Balanced Scorecard) - covering health & Safety, quality, delivery performance, innovation and commercial considerations.
